This soapstone mortar and pestle was handmade by Indian craftsmen in India, and is perfect for crushing large chunks of our resin incense into smaller, usable pieces. 

Simply put a big piece of resin incense inside the mortar bowl and mash it a few times with the pestle. 

As this is natural soapstone, there may be small variations in colour and pattern from the picture. It will be very similar though, with trivial, negligible differences. 

I recommend you not to use this for food and also incense. Pick one. Personally, if you are wanting to grind herbs for potions or spices for masala blends, I would go with a large granite mortar and pestle. This one for sale is really the perfect size for resin incense and may be too small for culinary use. 

 
Please ensure to only hit the material in the center bottom of the bowl, and take care not to strike the sides. The bottom can take the pounding, the sides not so much.
