Latin name - Eugenia luschnathiana

Pitomba trees are low-maintenance trees that bear prolifically and remind us of a one-bite tropical apricot. The trees are naturally diminutive (you could almost call them bushes) and don’t require much pruning to maintain their shape.

Pitombas are relatives of other Eugenia species like Surinam Cherry, Grumichama, and Cherry of the Rio Grande. Compared to its cousins, Pitomba fruits are similarly soft, tender, and juicy. Uniquely, Pitombas are golden, a bit fuzzy, and simultaneously sweet and tart. Fruits can be enjoyed right off the tree (just ask our kids) or processed into jellies, beverages, or baked goods.

Pitomba trees are native to Bahia, Brazil and are sometimes conflated with Grumichama, both referred to as “Brazilian Cherry.”
