The Ultra Vivid Lament" is the first studio album in three years by Manic Street Preachers, one of the UK's leading rock bands. The Ultra Vivid Lament" is their 14th studio album and their first in three years. The band members commented on the new song "Orwellian," which was released prior to the album's release. The song talks about the battle for meaning, the erasure of context in debate, and the overwhelming sense of contradiction in fiction (note: a work that mixes fact and fiction) caused by digital platforms that leads to perpetual culture wars." Musically, it's reminiscent of ABBA, Alan Rankin's commanding playing in The Associates, or Talk Talk's "It's My Life" with Lindsey Buckingham's guitar solo. I felt it was an ideal introduction to the album, both sonically and lyrically."The 11 songs on the album are a perfect blend of quiet intensity and sublime, irresistible tunes. These elements run the gamut from the ambient humming of the opening track, the intriguingly titled "Still Snowing in Sapporo," which is of interest to Japanese audiences, to the fictionalized conversational duet of Welsh artist siblings Gwen & Augustus John in the vibrant "The Secret He Had Mist. The song spans from the ambient humming of the vibrant "The Secret He Had Mist" to the offensive and defensive duet of the imaginary conversation between Welsh artist sisters Gwen and Augustus John on "The Secret He Had Mist. This album marks a departure from the previous "Resistance is Futile," and is the first Manic Street Preachers album to be initially inspired by the piano rather than the guitar. Recorded in the winter of 2020-21 with longtime collaborator Dave Elinga (The Who) at Rockfield in Monmouth, Wales, and at their Newport-owned Door to the River Studios, the recordings were later joined by David Wrench (Blossoms, The Frank Ocean, Arlo Parks) did the mixing.Two guest vocalists are featured on this album, Julia Cumming (Sunflower Bean) on "The Secret He Had Mist" and Mark Lanegan on "Blank Diary Entry".
