South African pianist/composer Nduduzo Makhathini in his acclaimed Blue Note debut. Following "Modes of Communication," which The New York Times named one of the "Best Jazz Albums of 2020," Nduduzo Makhathini's second album is the first release on Blue Note Africa, an imprint established in partnership with Universal Music Group Africa. This is Nduduzo Makhathini's tenth studio album! This album condenses the themes, sounds, and conceptual concepts explored in his catalog. "I felt the need to bring together everything I've been doing and put it in 'some' context," he says.A central figure in South Africa's vibrant jazz scene, McCatini is saxophonist Linda Sikkahane, trumpeter Robin Fasiekok, vibraphonist Dylan Tabithier, bassist Stephen de Souza, and percussionist Gontse Makenet, drummer Dane Paris, and special guests Omagh and Anna Widower on vocals, and American saxophonist Jarie Shaw, a band made up of some of South Africa's most promising young musicians. Incorporating a variety of concepts into the project, including "minor and major rhythms," "guided mobility," "active listening," and "ritualism," McCartini's work is presented in an engaging way that draws on his Zulu heritage and background of intellectual curiosity. I engage with these cosmological ideas as a way to situate jazz in our context." I have released 'Modes of Communication.Using letters as a metaphor for sounds arriving from the underworld, we released "Letters from the Underworlds". The previous release, "Listening to The Ground," shared with us the idea that listening is knowing. In the Spirit of Ntu lives within that paradigm of listening to what emerges from the ground. Ubuntu means "I am because you are. It is a profound evocation of collectivity.
