The Fredericia Wegner Ox Easy Chair never really blends into the background, and that was the point. When Hans J. Wegner designed it in the early 1960s, it felt unusually bold compared to much of the Danish furniture around at the time. The wide headrest, often said to reference ox horns, gives the chair its character, though it’s the softer curves and generous shape that stop it feeling severe.

There’s a lot of comfort built into the design without it being overworked. The upholstery sits tightly against the frame and the proportions are carefully handled, so the chair feels supportive and relaxed rather than oversized. Wegner approached seating quite instinctively, and you can sense that here. Nothing feels added for effect. It’s sculptural, certainly, but still very easy to live with.

The Ox Easy Chair tends to work best where it has a bit of room around it, whether that’s a quieter corner of a living space or somewhere more architectural.
