The MERMALIA necklace features a captivating array of multi-colored natural mother of pearl, with wavy patterns reminiscent of ocean waves. Hand-engraved with a depiction of a mermaid. In Greek myths, mermaids, often called sirens, were dangerous beings known for luring men to their doom. They are typically depicted as beautiful women with fish tails, regarded as minor goddesses of the sea.The legend of mermaids is linked to the Nereids and sea nymphs. While Nereids were usually shown with legs, they share a connection with mermaids. Shapeshifting sea nymphs, like Ione, one of the fifty Nereids, could also take on fishtails. Though often portrayed as benevolent, both Nereids and mermaids could exhibit darker traits, as illustrated by the myth of Queen Cassiopeia, who provoked the sea nymphs’ wrath.The Nereids are part of a nymph species called the Haliades, beautiful daughters of sea gods. Eurynome, a member of the Oceanids, further demonstrates the mermaid connection.Mother of pearl is considered a talisman of good luck and prosperity, believed to attract abundance and wealth.
