About Bordeaux

Bordeaux is the administrative centre of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region. A town in Gascony, it is situated in southwestern France. The local architecture is characterised by its limestone, which has a warm colour similar to Naples yellow that gives it its nickname of the “Blonde City”. Bordeaux is France's second-largest city and boasts the largest number of listed monuments (besides Paris).

At nightfall, they are all lit up spectacularly. The city is world famous for its wines and vineyards, which are amongst the most revered and expensive in the world. Its production is varied: 80% is red and 20% is white, and there are 38 different appellations.

With 15 m2 of green space per inhabitant within the city walls, Bordeaux has strong environmental credentials and was one of the first to be awarded the sustainable development label.
