Description:

Rarely discovered live recordings from Bill Evans' visits around Denmark from 1965-69 are now available on CD! Trio performances with Niels Pedersen, Eddie Gomez, and others, piano solos, and performances with Danish orchestras." The three versions of "Waltz for Debby" are a moving performance! Bill Evans visited Denmark from 1965-69 and recorded solo, trio, and orchestral performances. With the exception of a few songs, most of the recordings have never been released to the public before. Selected from the private collection of Norwegian jazz musician Ole Mathiesen, this is truly the discovery of the century. Co-produced by Jordi Soley and Carlos Augustin of Elemental Records and Zev Feldman, a masterpiece discovery contractor. This is the tenth officially discovered and released work with the Bill Evans Estate by Zev Feldman. This album contains live performances from the band's visits to Denmark in 1965, 1966, and 1969.CD-1 (M1-M3) from October 1965 features local musician Niels Henning Elsted Pedersen (b) and touring members from the U.S., performing at the "Copenhagen Jazz Festival" held at the Concert Hall in Tivoli, Copenhagen, The trio performance was performed by local musician Niels Henning Elsted Pedersen (b) and Alan Dawson (ds), a touring member from the U.S.A. In November of the same year, the drummer was replaced by Alex Riehl (ds) for the live performance in Holbeck, Denmark (M4-M8). M9 features the trio of Bill Evans (p), Eddie Gomez (b), and Marty Morrell (ds). The trio of Bill Evans (p), Eddie Gomez (b), and Marty Morrell (ds) performed with the Royal Danish Orchestra and the Danish Radio Big Band, conducted by trumpeter and arranger Pärt Mickelborg. The highlight of the performance is "Waltz For Debby," which begins with a heavy orchestral introduction like film music and ends with Evans' piano. This "Waltz ForDebby" is recorded as a reprise, this time with a different arrangement and structure, this time with the trio in the foreground and an orchestra in the background. CD-2 (M1-M6) contains six piano solos recorded during a visit to Copenhagen in November 1965. The CD-2 (M1-M6) contains six piano solos from his visit to Copenhagen in November 1965, including a duo performance of "My Funny Valentine" with Jim Hall. M7 is a recording of a trio performance by Eddie Gomez (b) and Alex Riehl (ds) when they visited Copenhagen in 1966, and M13 is a recording of a trio performance by Eddie Gomez (b) and Marty Morrell (ds) in 1969 in Aarhus, the first time Evans performed this song solo. Aarhus in 1969. These trio performances also include famous songs such as "Kareha" and "Stella in Starlight". Especially, "Nardis" is recorded with a different trio, and it is interesting to listen to the different drummers. (1/2)
