Capturing the essence of Asbyrgi Canyon was an exhilarating experience that spanned two days of exploration and creativity. The canyon's ethereal beauty, coupled with its rich history rooted in Norse mythology, provided endless inspiration.

I sought to encapsulate the awe-inspiring scale, vibrant autumn colors, and the unique geological formations from an aerial perspective. This vantage point reveals the mystical allure that early Viking settlers could only attribute to divine intervention.

The vivid colors of the rock and greenery, the explosion of life within the canyon walls, and the uniqueness of the site when compared to other valleys in Iceland still make this a spiritual place for many.

About Asbyrgi Canyon

Asbyrgi Canyon, located in North Iceland along the famed Diamond Circle route, is a geological marvel believed to have been formed by catastrophic glacial flooding.

This horseshoe-shaped canyon, steeped in Norse mythology, was thought to be the hoofprint of Odin's eight-legged horse, Sleipnir. The canyon is approximately 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) long and over 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) wide, with sheer cliffs rising up to 100 meters (328 feet).

Within the canyon, lush birch forests and serene geothermal pools contrast dramatically with the surrounding rugged lava fields, creating a magical landscape that feels otherworldly.
