Description:
Trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire's fifth Blue Note album, his first in two years since 2018's Origami Harvest. This quartet work consists of 11 new songs by Akinmusire! In this album, Akinmusire uses his voice to analyze the complexities of black life in America. But it is not an attempt at melancholy, but rather a unraveling of it all, and his trumpet conveys the breath of a black man who has seen both the good and the bad in America and turns it into 49 minutes of gorgeous and varied art - a It's like a study of the blues in a contemporary context. The themes first established on his first Blue Note album, 2011's When The Heart Emerges Glistening, are continued in this album. The album cover, then a portrait of a man with short hair and a clean-shaven face, now features a man with longer hair, a beard, and a black hooded sweatshirt. In a way, I thought of this as a sequel to my first record," he says. I'm going back to the landmarks of my first album."
