Although Cash has a strong outlaw image due to his drug addiction, many of his works are about the sorrows of life, moral trials, and redemption. BEAR'S SONIC JOURNALS: JOHNNY CASH, AT THE CAROUSEL BALLROOM APRIL 24, 1968" was recorded between Cash's two live prison releases, "AT FOLSOM PRISON" and "AT SAN QUENTIN The recording was made between the two prison live releases, AT FOLSOM PRISON and AT SAN QUENTIN.This live recording was made by Owsley Stanley, the resident sound engineer of the Carousel Ballroom, a venue that played a major role in the hippie/counterculture scene in San Francisco, and was operated by members of Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead. The album was recorded by Owsley Stanley, the resident sound engineer of the venue, which played a major role in the hippie movement/counterculture scene in San Francisco. The title "Bear's Sonic Journals" is a reference to Owsley's nickname. Cash, who at the time boasted a charismatic and popular outlaw image, is seen playing with the legendary Tennessee Three (guitarist Luther Perkins, bassist Marshall Grant, and drummer W.S. Holland) with June Carter, whom he had just married about a month before the show. The band was captured performing with the Tennessee Three in the background. The setlist at this time was slightly different from Cash's shows at the time, covering two Bob Dylan songs ("Don't Think Twice It's Alright" and "One Too Many Mornings," his first recording), "The Ballad of Owsley Stanley says that when he listened back to Cache's concert recordings, he felt he had captured something special and immediately decided to save them. Now it is being released in the "Bear's Sonic Journals" series. This live album was recorded at a pivotal time in Cash's history, just before the release of "AT FOLSOM PRISON," which could be called country meets counterculture. A concert that will go down in the annals of American music history is now available as a 2-LP analog set.
