Description:
The new album from 82 year old veteran Houston Person! The album features his longtime friends Warren Vatsch (cor) and Rodney Jones (g), and is a total of 9 songs ranging from R&B, light swing, and ballads, with the formation of quartet, quintet, and sextet depending on the song! Parson has been known for his masculine and soulful tenor ever since his R&B style works on Prestige in the 60's, but since signing with High Note Records in the late 90's, he has added a more mellow flavor to his music. The first track, "Come Rain or Come Shine," is a jazz standard, but here it is arranged in a soulful way, just like Parson. The guitar obbligato on the austere tenor is a nice touch. The album also features "Everything Must Change," a Benard Aigner composition that has been covered by many musicians, "IWonder Where Our Love Has Gone," a sideman on Etta Jones' "My Buddy" album, and "Never Let Me Go," a ballad known as Stanley Valentine's take on the song, The ballad "Never Let Me Go," a Stanley Tallentine take on the song, is soulful and bluesy throughout the album. Oldies fans will also enjoy this album. The nostalgic and telling tenor playing in the last song, "Danny Boy," will make you cry.
