Story & Inspiration

On October 14 1912, Theodore Roosevelt was en route to give a speech as the Progressive Party’s nominee when he was shot in the chest. Thanks to a metal eyeglass case and the folded pages of his speech, the bullet lodged in his muscle instead of his lungs. Rather than seeking medical attention, Roosevelt delivered his speech and told the crowd that it would take more than that to kill a Bull Moose. His courage, resilience and zest for life inspired this piece.
