Dia-Para-Ferromagnetism

Diamagnetism is the property of material which causes it to create a magnetic field in opposition of an externally applied magnetic field, thus causing a repulsive effect.

Paramagnetism is a form of magnetism which occurs in the same direction presence of an externally applied magnetic field. Paramagnetic materials are attracted to by external magnetic fields.

Ferromagnetism is the basic mechanism by which certain materials (such as iron) become permanent magnets and/or exhibit strong interactions with magnets. They are also magnetized strongly in the direction of external field.

The present setup demonstrates the magnetic behavior of Bismuth, Nickel and Aluminium samples when suspended freely in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. These metals are attracted or repelled by magnetic field depending upon the magnetic property of the metal under investigation..
