The opera "Demetrio e Polivio" is considered to be Rossini's first work, but there are many uncertainties as to when it was written, and there are various theories as to when Rossini was 14 or 18 years old, so the date of composition is not clearly known. However, the content is very mature, and the arias are wonderful, clearly demonstrating Rossini's genius. The story is about an unidentified young man, Civeno, who finds true love and family in the midst of political turmoil, and the work shows the young Rossini's skill in combining a wild storyline with flowing music. The young soprano Mchedulishvili from Tbilisi and the Russian mezzo-soprano Yarovaya are the core of a cohesive ensemble that sings this little-known work. Naxos Japan
