The first new work in three years from the queen of jazz vocals, Diana Krall, is a superb standard vocal work. Of all the recordings she has made in the studio, this work looks back at the recordings from 2016, which Diana herself felt were particularly "too good to leave out and too far from outtakes," and compiles previously unreleased material. Included are her final recordings with the late Tommy Repuma, who discovered her talent; the years since 2016 have been special for Diana. She recorded the album "Turn Up the Quiet" and the collaborative album "Love Is Here to Stay" with Tony Bennett, and toured around the world, but that did not satisfy her creativity, and she found time to work with the master musician Tommy Lipuma on She found time to make new recordings with master musician Tommy Lipuma. Just then, however, Ripuma passed away in 2017 at the age of 80. Losing his old production partner, he once put a lid on the source material, but decided to make an album around "But Beautiful," which was the last recording produced by Libuma and the one he liked best.If "Turn Up the Quiet" is the front, this is the back. This is a collection of never-before-seen recordings of her memories with the Replumas, secretly capturing her busy life from a different angle. The album includes "Almost Like Being in Love" and "That's All" with John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, and Anthony Wilson as a quartet, "Autumn In New York" with Christian McBride and Russell Malone as a trio, and "Tornado" with John Clayton. York" and "There's No You," as well as "I Wished On The Moon" with Krall and bassist John Clayton, and duos such as "More Than You Know" and "Don't Smoke In Bed" with pianist Alan Broadbent. The album includes a variety of sessions. Broadbent also orchestrated the strings on "But Beautiful" and arranged the strings on "Autumn In New York.In addition, the last session for the album took place at Capitol Studios with an ensemble featuring guitarist Marc Ribot, Stuart Duncan on fiddle, and rhythm section members Tony Garnier (b) and Karriem Riggins (ds). The lineup was led by Irving Berlin's own Jamie Bergman (b). The lineup performed Irving Berlin's "Just You, Just Me," "How Deep Is The Ocean," and Bob Dylan's "This Dream Of You" with Randall Krall on accordion. Al Schmidt was the recording engineer. Diana herself insisted on creating a "voice that can be heard right next to you" so that her thoughts and feelings would reach the audience as much as possible. Diana also said, "I think some of the performances on this album unintentionally stirred up emotions in me. It is at times like this, when we can no longer easily visit New York in the fall, as we can in other seasons, that we must believe that there is hope in the midst of days of hardship and change.It's music for the moment, but it's also a 'long-play record' that can be shared with others in a cinematic way. If "But Beautiful" is the overture, "Singing In The Rain" is the end title.
