The band released the single "Sneakin' Suspicion" and an album with the same title in 1977, but then Wilco Johnson left the band and John "Zippy" Mayo joined the band as a new guitarist for a series of hit singles including "She's A Wind Up," "Down At The Doctors," and the UK Top 10 single "Milk And Alcohol" by Zippy Mayo and Nick Lowe. During 1979 and 1980, the band released a variety of hit singles such as "Put Him Out Of Your Mind", "Hong Kong Money", and "Violent Love". Violent Love", but at the end of the year, Zippy left the band. The band then brought in Johnny Guitar and Gordon Russell and released singles such as "Crazy About Girls" and "Monkey," but the trend of member changes continued, and founding members John B. Sparks and John Martin also left the band. John B. Sparks and John Martin, who had been founding members, left the band.In 1982, the remaining Lee Brillow put the band on hiatus, but in addition to Gordon Russell, he brought in Phil Mitchell on bass and Kevin Morris on drums to resume their activities as Dr. Feelgood, releasing singles such as "Mad Man Blues" and "Don't Wait Up" which earned tremendous airplay on the radio.
