The blackbird’s song is among Simon's most cherished of all garden birds. Its richness and complexity evoke the essence of English summer gardens—spaces increasingly altered by climate change. Heavier rainfall, rising temperatures and unpredictable seasons are transforming once-familiar rhythms. Blackbirds themselves are now under threat, as warmer conditions enable mosquitoes to spread the Usutu virus in the UK, often with fatal consequences for this bird species.
