Retinol has been everywhere in the skincare world.
In very simple terms, retinol is a type of retinoid, which comes from Vitamin A. Vitamin A in its various forms has the ability to stimulate the production of new, health skin cells, meaning that it is a fan favourite for preventing, and even reversing, signs of aging. Retinol can be quite irritating, but this product has a very low, very mild percentage of it - don't be scared by 'intense' in the product name! 
The ingredient list also stars Bakuchiol, (which is a great alternative to retinol) making it a good starter for those new to retinol – or even those who find other products to be far too harsh for their skin.

The gentle formula is thanks to multiple types of Centella Asiatica, which as a baeve fave ensures that the formula actively soothes and strengthens the skin barrier (outer skin layer), counteracting any potential dryness or irritation from the retinoids present. Niacinamide and Liquorice Root Extract both work to brighten the skin and improve dark spots (alongside the retinoids), and Tocopherol and Ginseng Berry Extract help to protect the skin from environmental stressors (like the sun and pollution). These ingredients are important as retinoids can make your skin very vulnerable in the beginning stages of use. The important thing to remember with retinoids, is that slow and steady wins the race, and consistency is key!

Well suited: regular, dry, combination, and ages between 16 and 40 

Well suited, but be wary: oily, sensitive, acne-prone, and those 40 years of age and over (while there is synthetic fragrance in this product, it's one of the last ingredients, so we don't recommend that you completely strike this product out unless your skin can't handle any fragrance)

Not well suited: psoriasis, rosacea, eczema, pregnancy, those under 16 years of age, and those wanting to avoid fungal acne triggers
