Rostropovich
Description:
This is a superb, white-hot live performance that surpasses Decca's best-selling studio recordings! This is a rare recording of Britten (1913-1976) and Rostropovich (1927-2007) performing together at the Oldborough Music Festival, which also includes the bonus recording of the complete Bach Unaccompanied No. 3. Britten was present at the Western premiere of Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1 in London in September 1960, and was extremely impressed with Rostropovich, who was the soloist. Britten's sonatas for cello and three solo cello suites are indispensable works for the modern cellist. This is a recording of their collaboration at the Oldborough Festival in 1971. The bonus track includes Bach's Solo Cello Suite No. 3, which was performed on a different occasion at the festival that same year, as a luxurious extra. King International
