The Yardbirds
Description:
US Release Series] Third US album released in 1966 is back with complete STEREO/MONO recording! The Yardbirds' records were released by Columbia in the UK and Epic in the US, but in Japan, the Yardbirds were basically under contract with their home country, so the UK version was released in real time (released by Toshiba Music Industry at that time). However, the U.S. version was issued with a unique selection of songs & jackets different from the U.K. version, and it has become a collectible favorite among avid fans. 3 copies were reissued simultaneously in paper jacket by Oldays Records in 2018, the first, second, and fifth copies in the U.S., skipping two copies. The third album, which had been missing, finally saw the light of day. The third album, "Over Under Sideways Down," was released in the U.S. in August 1966. The title and cover of the album are different from those of the second album "Yardbirds" in the U.K., but the contents are the same except for two songs "The Nazz Are Blue (Always Alone)" and "Rack My Mind (Scars of Love)" from the British version (10 songs in total). All songs are original compositions by the band members and co-produced by Paul Samuel-Smith (who left the band in June 1966, just before the release of this album) and new manager Simon Napier-Bell. This was the Yardbirds' first studio-recorded album (Jeff Beck, Keith Relf, Chris Dreher, Paul Samuel-Smith, and Jim McCarty). It is the first of the Yardbirds' few original studio recordings (in the UK) and has been reissued many times in Japan, each time with its own title, "The Yardbirds Featuring Jeff Beck" (1970: Toshiba Onkyo), "Jeff Beck and the Yardbirds featuring Jeff Beck" (1970: Toshiba Onkyo), "The Yardbirds featuring Jeff Beck" (1970: Toshiba Onkyo), and "The Yardbirds featuring Jeff Beck" (1970: Toshiba Onkyo). (1977, 1979: Toshiba EMI), but in the 1970s, Jeff Beck was very active, and this album was released on CD for the first time in Japan in 1994. After the first Japanese CD release in 1994 (Sony), the Japanese title was changed to "Roger the Engineer" (reissued three times by Victor in the 2000s).Therefore, the CD reissue of "Over Under Sideways Down" in its original U.S. vinyl version in paper jacket is very valuable. ~Excerpt from the commentary by Toru Ueshiba
