Description:

Stanford's collection of chamber music works, which was well received by the Dante Quartet's string quartet collection. The two quintets, first performed in 1904, have a profound atmosphere reminiscent of Brahms, and were composed with Joseph Joachim, whom Stanford studied in Leipzig and Berlin, in mind. Joseph Joachim, whom Stanford studied in Leipzig and Berlin. The second movement features an Irish folk song, which is very Stanford-esque. The world premiere recording of No. 2 also commemorates Joachim's first visit to England 60 years ago. The Interlude, written in 1880, was originally intended for clarinet and piano, but the composer's own arrangement for cello and piano is used here.
