First entering RAF service in 1952, the De Havilland Vampire T.11 trainer was the final UK variant of Britains second operational jet fighter and the first advanced jet trainer to adopt a side-by-side seating configuration. Unusually, the forward section of the fuselage was constructed of plywood, adopting manufacturing techniques perfected on the famous wartime Mosquito.
