Instead of proofing the whiskey in tanks before bottling, Frank August proofed it directly in the barrel at the time of the second fill. This innovative technique ensured that each barrel reached 95 proof at the point of maturation. The whiskey then continued to age in secondary barrels for an additional 12-14 months before being dumped and batched.
