Sarah Vaughan left Mercury after the 1967 recording "Sassy Swings Again" and did not make any formal recordings until signing with Mainstream in 1971, but she was active live during that time, including a performance at the 1971 However, he was active in live performances during that period, including a performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1971, which was later discovered and released. This is another previously unreleased live performance from that period, recorded at the Philharmonic Hall in Berlin in 1969. The trio was backed by Johnny Vieth (p), Gus Mancuso (b), and Ed Pucci (ds), who had accompanied Sarah on her first tour of Japan that year. There are no other recordings of Sarah and the three of them together.However, as far as the Japan tour and this CD are concerned, Wiese's skill as a uta accompaniment pianist is quite impressive, and he is able to get the best out of Sarah's vocals on the fast tempo "Zing, Zing, Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart" and on quiet ballads like "By The Time I Get To Phoenix". The band's vocalist, Sarah, is a perfect match on the fast-paced "Zing, Zing, Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart" and on quieter ballads such as "By The Time I Get To Phoenix".
