Description: Woodworking 102 - Hall Table

Welcome to Woodworking 102 – the next step in your woodworking journey! This intermediate course builds on the foundational skills developed in Woodworking 101 and is designed to refine your craftsmanship and deepen your understanding of woodworking techniques. You'll strengthen your ability to read and interpret design drawings while developing hands-on skills in rough breakout, gluing up stock using random widths, and squaring lumber for precision work. We’ll focus on creating edge-to-edge panel glue-ups and face-to-face glue-ups for legs, while exploring advanced joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints, dowels, and pocket holes. The highlight of the course is building a solid wood hall table featuring classic square legs, dado-detailed side skirts, and a top secured with minimal fasteners—just a few screws—to allow for seasonal wood movement. Whether you're looking to take your woodworking to the next level or preparing for more complex projects, this course will give you the tools and confidence to move forward.

What to Expect

In this hands-on course, you'll deepen your woodworking skills by focusing on:

• Advanced Techniques: Master the intricate process of squaring and gluing lumber into panels and legs.
• Joinery Mastery: Learn various types of joinery, including but not limited to, dowels, and more, to create stronger, more refined connections between your woodworking pieces.
• Attention to Detail: Enhance precision and craftsmanship while working on structured projects or limited custom designs.

Session Details

• Length: Four sessions, running from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with an optional additional hour (9:00 PM–10:00 PM) for those who need extra time to refine their work.
• Included Shop Time: Participants will also have additional access to the woodshop outside of class hours, allowing them to catch up or continue working on their projects independently. (This will give you a temporary limited woodshop membership for the duration of the course.)

Woodworking 102 is a progressive course designed to build directly on the skills acquired in Woodworking 101. By completing these two courses in sequence, you’ll gain a robust skill set that equips you to tackle increasingly ambitious projects with confidence.

(Woodworking 101 is a prerequisite for this workshop. Appropriate safety equipment is required. Material fees may apply, depending on the type of wood selected.)

Woodworking 201: Advanced Crafting

• Instructor: More of a facilitator 
• Target Audience: Intermediate woodworkers ready to craft functional furniture.
• Key Projects: Custom furniture pieces (e.g., tables, bookcases, step stools).
• Skills Covered:
• Advanced joinery techniques.
• Project planning, design, and execution.
• Shop membership for independent practice.
• Structure: Guided and flexible learning, focusing on ambitious and personalized projects.
