Makito Nishiya
Description:
The first solo album by cellist Makito Nishitani, former principal cellist of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra! This album is a collection of the pieces that Nishitani has encountered in his half-life and has played with great care and special feelings. The contents are wide-ranging, ranging from cello staples such as "Swan" and "Elegy" and "Bird Song," which is a special piece for cellists, to four songs sung on the cello, an instrument close to the human voice, to "Hymn" by Dobrogoth, with which the composer himself once collaborated, and a piece that Satoshi Kitamura, a bandoneon player who performs with Nishitani, commissioned for a joint performance with Nishitani, and which they both began performing together. The program includes Escande's "Milonga Lenga," which was commissioned and premiered by the two of them together, Summer's "Julie O," which he has been playing for more than 20 years since he first encountered it while studying in the United States, and Piazzolla's Ave Maria (with bandoneon), a piece he has enjoyed playing for a long time.
