The Rick Turner Peanut Guitar Tribute. Jerry Garcia used the famous "Peanut"in '71 and shows up on the Skull & Roses album. Many deadheads argue that this was Jerry's best tone! This guitar was modified and built by Rick Turner in the early days of Alembic.
Rick Turner Guitars built a few reissues for direct customers (including Jeff Mattson of Dark Star Orchestra, one for Lowell George's son Forrest, and one for the owner of Universal Audio) and now Willcutt Guitars is proud to offer this historic build. These are very true to the original Gibson that Rick modified but with some modernization. For instance, the original had extra frets on an after-market extension of the fingerboard, whereas these reissues have just a longer fingerboard with the same number of frets: 27! Necks are mahogany as per original LP/SG, BUT feature a modern two way truss rod, AND the necks have two bars of carbon fiber to correct the biggest problem with the old SG necks…their “whippyness”. Fingerboards are Royal Blackwood. Fingerboards are inlaid with mother of pearl blocks. Fingerboards and pegheads are bound in white celluloid, and pegheads have black/white purfling lines, once again as per original.
The bodies are mahogany with a bookmatched walnut veneered back and sides, with the same elaborate marquetry strip used on the original. Body trim is maple binding with black white purfling. Hardware is gold plated with Grover RotoMatic tuners, “Nashville” TunaMatic bridge, and our own stop tailpiece. Features Seymour Duncan “Seth Lover” humbuckers… one of the closest matches to the original Gibson PAFs available. Electronics are fully shielded.
