Sony's third release of its own consistent production analog records, Bob Dylan's fifth album, released in 1965, reached No. 6 on the U.S. charts and No. 1 in the U.K., setting a new record for sales.
The rap-style A-(1) "Subterranean Homesick Blues," which became his first U.S. Top 40 hit, was also the subject of a popular music video in which Dylan flips a board with some of the lyrics written on it as he sings. Other classic songs include B-(1) "Mr. Tambourine Man," which was covered by The Byrds and reached No. 1 in the U.S., and B-(4) "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue," which seems to say goodbye to the folk followers who criticized his conversion to electric music. The jacket, shot in the living room of his manager's house at the time, is littered with albums that Dylan was supposedly influenced by.
It is a historical masterpiece that strengthened the rock tone and gave an impression of the beginning of the turbulent period in the late 1960s.
