You ask a lot from your flexplate. The forces they're put under are extreme and in high performance applications the flexplate can slip; even with correctly installed and torqued bolts! It only takes a small amount movement for the bolts to loosen and allow the flexplate to oscillate against the crankshaft causing costly and catastrophic damage to both parts. This friction increase stops your flexplate from slipping, allowing it to handle the much higher torque loads expected from a diesel engine.
