Labradorite is a calcium enriched feldspar mineral, first identified in Labrador, Canada.  There is also a particular variety of Labradorite from Finland which is called Spectrolite.

Labradorite can display a beautiful play of colours and effects, much like the Northern Lights (also known as Aurora Borealis). This is caused by internal fractures in the mineral that reflect light back and forth.  This optical effect is known as ‘labradorescence’ and this is what gives Labradorite its appeal and fame.
