Why this aircraft matters

N7470 was the very first Boeing 747 ever built. It rolled off the line at Everett in 1968 as a prototype for a new class of air travel. 

This jet earned the nickname "City of Everett", honouring its birthplace. It carried Boeing’s "house colour" livery, showcasing the colours of first customers. 

N7470 made its maiden flight on 9 February 1969, marking the start of the Jumbo-jet era. After testing, it served Boeing as a live testbed for decades.

Its final flight came in April 1995. Boeing donated it to the Museum of Flight in Seattle, where it remains on display.
