This half-sleeve khadi shirt carries one of the most refined stitch techniques in tailoring, without making a performance of it. Made from pure cotton khadi, handspun and handwoven in Karnataka, the space-dyed Bonne Nuit yarn gives the fabric a warm, muted depth. The fabric is pre-washed and destarched, already softened before it reaches you. The relaxed fit and straight hem make it easy to wear tucked in or loose, at a desk or over the weekend. For a shirt that holds this much craft, it tends to get noticed in the right way.

 

Details: Mandarin collar. Half sleeves. Straight hem with side slits. Front patch pocket with fagoting stitch detail along the top edge. Fagoting stitch detail on both shoulder seams. Back yoke with a box pleat. No thick fusing or buckram in the collar or placket. Non-corrosive metal buttons throughout. Individually cut and sewn in our Bengaluru studio.

 

Intent: In Kannada, an Akkasaali is a goldsmith. His most exacting work is the chain, where every link must match every other, where the line must fall without kinking, where the eye travels the full length and finds nothing to interrupt it.

 

Fagoting is a stitch that works on the same principle. It is a series of open, interlocked thread bridges pulled through folded fabric, each one creating a small gap, each gap identical to the last. The result is a delicate, ladder-like line that runs along the pocket top and shoulder seam of this shirt, letting the fabric breathe at its edges the way a chain lets light pass through. Akkasaali is not decoration. It is discipline made visible.
