Echinocereus rigidissimus v. rubispinus is originally endemic to Arizona and Mexico, specifically to the northern portion of the Sonoran desert, and north-western parts of the Chihuahuan desert. Adapted to dry, arid to semi-arid desert environments, these Echinocereus experience significant temperature differences between day and night. And are accustomed to take intense, full sun with very minimal rain throughout the year. These cacti can be found in steep rocky cliffs and well-draining acidic soils. Flowers are bright pinkish-red, red, or magenta with white centers. Flowers can be up to 10 cm wide and grow as a ring on the crown of the cacti.
