Description:
Rare live performance by Divo at a famous punk club in San Francisco in August 1977, before their major label debut! This is a rare live performance at Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco by Divo, who had not yet made their major label debut and had just released their first independent album! In the late 60's, Gerald Cassell (Vo, B) and Bob Lewis met as art students at Kent State University in Ohio, and later joined Mark Mothersbaugh (Key), who was also a student at the university. In 1977, the band released two singles on their own label, and their major label debut, "Q. Are We Not Men? was the year the band began to play live in earnest, and although most of their 80-plus shows in the year were in their home state of Ohio, they also made their first foray into New York and California. This live recording is from one of their intermittent shows at several venues in California over a three-month period from the end of July to mid-October, when they appeared at San Francisco's Mabuhay Gardens, a sacred place for West Coast punk/new wave, on August 3, 1977. It was a 2-day show on August 2 and 3, the day before the show, and it seems that the band played twice a day on the 3rd (it is unclear whether this is the 1st or 2nd set). Punk-like momentum and linear performance, however, their unique inorganic nature can already be heard. Most of the songs in the setlist are from their first album, and a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" has already been performed. This is a valuable live recording that shows their peculiarity!
