Additional Details: Offset lithograph by Alberto Magnelli titled The Couple, created for an exhibition held at Galerie Lelong, Paris, during FIAC 88 at the Grand Palais in 1988. The exhibition celebrated a retrospective of the artist’s work spanning the years 1914–1969. This elegant and visually refined exhibition poster features one of Magnelli’s lyrical figurative compositions from his transitional period before his complete move into abstraction. Depicting a stylized couple walking arm in arm through a brightly colored architectural landscape, the image combines simplified forms, elongated figures, and bold geometric planes characteristic of the artist’s highly recognizable visual language. Magnelli was one of the pioneering figures of European modernism and later became closely associated with abstraction and the Parisian avant-garde. While many collectors know him for his geometric abstract compositions, works such as The Couple reveal the important bridge between figuration and abstraction that defined much of his early and middle career.
