The Vision

Nowhere near as realized as his later Tresor recordings such as Internal Empire and Minimal Nation, Robert Hoods contribution to the Waveform Transmission series as the Vision was innovative for its time, nonetheless. Obviously influenced by his time spent in the Detroit group Underground Resistance and as a collaborator with Jeff Mills, this record finds Hood favoring a dark machine-like feel with plenty of hard-hitting 909 drum beats and an assaulting array of swirling high-frequency laser-sounding loops. With the syncopated pounding and the maelstrom of looped laser sounds, a stark, austere motif pervades throughout these eight songs; unfortunately, the variety of experimental song ideas so common to his later work is notably absent. ~ Jason Birchmeier
