Meticulously engraved with interwoven, traditional Japanese motifs, Shimizu Glass Co.’s Maruhishi Kagome Lavender Bowl is a sterling example of Edo kiriko cut glass from masters of the ancient art form, who have been practicing it for more than 100 years.

Crafted entirely by hand by a team of master glass-cutters in a small workshop in Tokyo, the bowl’s intricate patterning is composed of two timeless Japanese motifs: a “shippou” pattern of concentric circles that symbolize harmony, fulfillment, and connection, and a “kagome” pattern akin to basketweave, symbolizing protection.
