Description:
Jeff Denson, who has gained attention for his work with mentor Lee Konitz, Romaine Pilon, a brilliant Frenchman in the vein of Kurt, and Brian Braid, one of the leading drummers of our time! The three have evolved since the release of "Between Two Worlds" in 2019, and have completed the album "Finding Light", which contains their performances that burst with the joy of being able to play together! Originally colleagues at Berklee, the trio was formed with the addition of Romaine after a creative spark between the two was ignited when Denson joined Brian on tour with Joel Harrison's Spirits House Quintet in 2017, and the two joined forces on their "Between Two Worlds" tour. Between Two Worlds, the group has taken on a permanent personality that has also led to numerous performances and travels. With each performance, the band has evolved in direction and sound, reaching a high point on tour in February 2020! Meanwhile, there will plunge into a Corona nightmare. However, their creative power never waned, and using their time of isolation and uncertainty over the divisive times as a springboard, the three of them created chemistry and brought their wonderful performance to fruition here. There was a burst and overflowing of joy at being able to perform together again. The moodiness of the opening number, in odd time signatures, with the three musicians intertwining with Brian's groove, and the flow into the Dennison-composed title track, with its beautiful interplay of melody and Romaine's sense of harmony, shows how full of creative energy this work is, after only a few songs. It only takes a few songs to reveal how full of creative energy this work is. Moreover, the work has a contrast of yin and yang, and is full of depth. A Moment in Time" (4), which was first composed for this work and appears in the center of the piece, is a performance of a vividly surreal situation. Denson says, "During the three weeks I was on house arrest due to Corona, I kept hearing Romaine and Brian's voices when I sat in my studio at home, and their sounds mixed with the silence of the world, which confused me," and this song is vivid as one that expresses the chaotic mood of the time when people were worried about the future in the free improvised music. The song is vivid as a free improvisation that expresses the chaotic mood of the time, when people were worried about the future. Terre," which means "Earth," is a beautiful, nostalgic song inspired by the landscape of Brittany, where Romaine now lives, and also expresses a sense of crisis for the future. In other words...this work also reflects the zeitgeist as seen by the musicians beyond the reality of Corona. Jeff and Romaine envisioned a "three-piece realistic performance" and composed the song "Finding Light" in search of light. Therefore, every song is 100% inevitable for the three of them to be together, from swing to odd-time grooves, guided by the funk sound of contemporary jazz musicians, and improvisation. The recording was rescheduled three times, but finally realized in January 2022. The three members with a contemporary feel freely depict a performance in which organic joy in playing and the drama of living in the present intersect. This is a work in which one can feel the solid sense of the times. ---This is a work that gives you a sense of the certainty of the times.
