Description:
In many ways, Sonny Clark embodied the essence of the hard bop pianist. With an enviable lyrical flow and a wealth of inventive melodic ideas that he deployed with clarity and without fuss, Clark had deep emotional roots in the blues. Clark moved from his hometown of Pittsburgh to New York City, where he began working with Blue Note in 1957, and in January 1958 he joined Art Farmer on trumpet, Jackie McLean on alto saxophone, Paul Chambers on bass, and drummer Recorded with a first-rate quintet, Philly Joe Jones, "Cool Struttin'" is a masterpiece, completed on Clark's fifth appearance at Blue Note as a leader. This album is a hard bop masterpiece that has been loved in Japan for many years, including the jacket, which has enhanced its reputation as a timeless hard bop classic since Clark's untimely death in 1963 at the age of 31.【パーソネル】Sonny Clark(p) Jackie McLean(as) Art Farmer(tp) Paul Chambers(b) Philly Joe Jones(ds)
