Musical Humour, Thomas Dunford
Description:
Dowland, a consort of virtuosi players] Dowland is performed by Musicale Umor, an ensemble led by Julien Leonard and featuring viol players (viols and viola da gamba) from France and other European countries and Thomas Dunford on lute. The 21 pieces of "Lacryme, or Seven Tears," published in 1604, are included in this collection. Two different instruments are used for treble, tenor, and bass respectively. The seven "Tears," which are usually played in succession, are separated by a moving galliard in between, which highlights the individuality and beauty of each piece and makes them sound very fresh. The vocal twists performed by each of the virtuosos are also very appealing. Naxos Japan
