This is the debut album by Christiana Roemer, a vocalist/composer who grew up in a bilingual family in Frankfurt, Germany, with an American mother and German father, and now lives and works in New York City. Christiana's mother instilled in her the importance of integrating both American and German cultures, and through long summer visits in North Dakota, she began piano lessons, joined her church choir, and by the age of 9, she was writing lyrics. Later, as a teenager, she sang popular songs and standards at local lounges while taking voice lessons, and studied at Concordia College in Minnesota as a scholarship student before moving on to Paris. However, a trip to New York City was the decisive catalyst for his eventual move to the city, where he has remained ever since. While studying jazz at Queens College, she regularly sings at Quitano's, Cornelia Street Cafe, and Rockwood Music Hall. She pays homage to her mother, who had a great influence on her, and to her beloved sisters, as well as to Felice Schragenheim's "Dienhende," written by a courageous woman who died young at the hands of the Nazis, and to a poem inspired by Hermann Hesse's poetry. Also numbers.It also shows its respect for jazz in songs like Stanley Tarentine's classic "Sugar" and Mingus' supreme ballad "Duke Ellington's Sounds of Love".
