Bring home the archive with our 1:1 prop replica of the Gamorrean Guard Axe as seen in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. 

While it may not look very big in the giant hands of the Gamorrean creature suits, this massive axe prop measures over 31” long! This new signature edition is part of our Star Wars Archive Collection, a continuation and expansion of our work creating authentic replicas with impeccable lineage. 

With hands-on access to the original film prop artifact and high resolution 3D scanning, our team crafted a faithful recreation of the original prop from the film, capturing the unique asymmetry, hand-carved look and intentionally crude welding. 

This entire replica is solid cast in heavy polyurethane resin. The blade is hand-painted with the same faux-metal techniques used on the original prop, with layers of aging, “rust” and distressing. 

To ensure that each replica has the same grain, knots and unique carved elements found on the original prop, our team used resin to recreate the “wood” portion of the axe. That section is then hand painted and stained to bring out those incredible details. 

A beautiful black hardwood display mount allows this unique prop to be displayed horizontally on a wall and features an engraved area to showcase the elegant metal plaque. This special signature edition includes a plaque hand-signed by Stephen Costantino, a creature suit performer who portrayed  one of the Gamorrean Guards in the 1983 film. 

This edition is limited to just 100 pieces and all will be made and hand finished in the U.S.A. Each will be hand-packed in a kraft brown corrugated shipper box with die-cut foam insert and COA.

The Archive Collection - Recreating an Artifact
“We’ve spent an extraordinary amount of time with some of the most iconic artifacts used in the making of the Star Wars films. It’s always fascinating to find out the materials used and get a true sense of the scale of these treasures. 

When examining the film-used Gamorrean axe prop, we learned that the original blade was actually thin lightweight plastic! For a filming prop, the light weight makes sense, since the axe would need to be carried in the rubber hands the ILM creature shop made for the creatures they called “pig guards” at the time. 

For our replica, however, we had to strike the right balance of authenticity and giving fans something that feels substantial and can be reproduced consistently. That led us to using heavy, polyurethane resin when casting our replicas. The resin replica blade feels massive and hefty and the “wood” portion of each replica now will all have consistent details like the proper grain and knots. 

The scale of this piece was also impressive! Looking at the film stills, the giant rubber hands of the Gamorrean costumes minimize the axe a bit. Holding it in our smaller, human hands made the massive size of the axe instantly apparent! 

Best of all for me, though, was getting to handle a prop with a silhouette that instantly took me back to the 80’s action figure. The incredibly unique blade shape brought back some wonderful memories.
