Description:
Why? Because music is now so perfect that there are no loose ends. Vocals are auto-tuned and drums are played to the click of a button. But all the great music of the past, be it Brazilian, soul, or jazz, is shaky. -MOCKY March 6 and 7, 2020, Los Angeles, USA. A record of two days in which 16 musicians came together just days before the first lockdown began. The location is Barefoot Studios (the current name) in Hollywood, which was established in 1967 (then known as Crystal Industries Recording Studio) and was the birthplace of many of the greatest hits that graced the American charts during the 70's and 80's. The studio is also known as the birthplace of the Mocky Mocky album. Stevie Wonder's "Music of My Mind," "Talking Book," "Songs in the Key of Life," "Hotter Than July," and Sirita's debut album were recorded here. The album "SASKAMODIE" was recorded here. Many songs utilizing strings have been performed on the album "SASKAMODIE" and later albums, but this is the first time that strings have been so fully featured on an entire album. It is different from what is evoked by the word "orchestral album," and is open to those who are not familiar with string music, and has this atmosphere in which everyone can produce overtones. It is not church music, but it is very soothing and warm, not a conventional healing or quiet music, but music that soothes the soul. The inclusion of the Roland Sh-1000, said to be the first Japanese-made analog synthesizer, is another MOCKY touch. Singers such as Moses Sumney, Nia Andrews, Feist, and Eddie Chacon do not take the lead vocals for each song, but rather join together as part of a choir. Joey Dorsick plays organ and glockenspiel; Vicki Fairwell, who will accompany the band on its 2019 Japan tour, plays piano; Michel Ndegeo cello; and Gabe Noel, known for his extensive work with Vetiver, Sam Gendell, and Kamasi Washington, plays cello, The individual activities of the participating musicians, including double bass, Quadron with Robin Hannibal, and Coco O., who is well known for his work with Wulfpeck, reveal a unique composition that is neither a specific genre nor a community. Learning from his predecessor Theo Macero, the editing was done by Mocky himself, and the meticulous mixing was done by his close friend Renaud Letang.
