The Atomic Defense Ballistic Helmet with Face Shield delivers NIJ Level IIIA+ protection for both the head and face in a single integrated system. The helmet shell is available in MICH (Modular Integrated Communications Helmet) and FAST (Future Assault Shell Technology) configurations, each rated to the same IIIA+ ballistic standard. A 22 mm-thick polycarbonate visor mounts directly to the ARC rail system and covers 150 mm x 380 mm (5.9 in. x 15 in.) of facial coverage. The system conforms to E, UK/SC/5449, STANAG 2920, NIJ 0106.01, VPAM PM 1-5 (with PM 6 resistance), TR DE SK L-2 (with SK 3 resistance), HOSDB HG1/A-HG2 (with RF1 resistance), GOST Class 1-2A (with Class 3 resistance), and GOST 2017 BR 1-3 (with BR 4 resistance).
Both the helmet shell and the polycarbonate visor are rated to NIJ Level IIIA+, tested to resist high-velocity handgun rounds including .357 Magnum JSP, 9 mm FMJ, .44 Magnum, and .50 cal. The helmet and visor are each tested to endure a minimum of four hits from .357 Magnum JSP and 9 mm FMJ, exceeding baseline NIJ standards. The governing standard is NIJ 0106.01, with additional conformance to UK/SC/5449, NATO STANAG 2920, VPAM PM 1-5 (PM 6 resistance), TR DE SK L-2 (SK 3 resistance), HOSDB HG1/A-HG2 (RF1 resistance), GOST Class 1-2A (Class 3 resistance), and GOST 2017 BR 1-3 (BR 4 resistance).
This system does not claim protection against rifle-caliber threats at any level. For operational scenarios requiring rifle-round defeat, a hard armor plate system paired with a separate ballistic plate carrier is required.
The helmet shell ships pre-assembled with a color-matched ARC rail system, exterior Velcro, NVG shroud, and an ARC-to-Picatinny adapter. Retention hardware uses black bolts securing the ARC rails, and color-matched bungees with self-holding integration are built into the rail system. The exterior finish is an all-weather paint rated for use across varying weather conditions. Both MICH and FAST shell styles carry identical IIIA+ ballistic ratings; the MICH cut provides extended ear coverage, while the FAST cut maximizes accessory attachment compatibility.
The visor is a multi-layered polycarbonate construction, 22 mm (0.86 in.) thick and weighing 3 lbs (1.342 kg). The polycarbonate is bubble-free and optically clear, providing unobstructed vision without distortion. The visor does not fog and does not restrict breathing.
The interior includes three padding sets: one thin set and two thicker sets, all in black and tan colorways. Padding sets can be mixed, matched, or partially removed to dial in fit depth and pressure distribution. The tan safety padding layer must remain installed at all times. The memory foam padding compresses under initial contact and conforms to head shape during wear, enabling extended sessions without pressure points. A color-matched straps-and-harness system is included and pre-assembled at shipment.
The helmet ships with an NVG shroud (color-matched) suitable for standard NVG mounting configurations. The ARC rail system runs along both sides of the shell and accepts a wide range of ARC-compatible accessories. An ARC-to-Picatinny adapter is included in the box, expanding compatibility to Picatinny-spec lights, cameras, and communication accessories. The FAST cut in particular is optimized for maximum attachment compatibility across side rails and front mount positions.
Interior padding sets allow the fit to be customized across a wide range of head circumferences. Padding thickness can be adjusted by swapping or stacking the included sets. Contact us to confirm which shell size best matches your head circumference before ordering.
IIIA+ indicates ballistic performance at or above the NIJ Level IIIA threshold, tested against .357 Magnum JSP, 9 mm FMJ, .44 Magnum, and .50 cal rounds. Both the helmet shell and the polycarbonate visor carry this rating. The helmet and visor are each tested to withstand a minimum of four hits from .357 Magnum JSP and 9 mm FMJ, which exceeds baseline NIJ 0106.01 requirements.
No. The IIIA+ rating covers high-velocity handgun threats. No wearable ballistic helmet currently achieves rifle-caliber protection at the Level IV equivalent (RF3) threshold. For rifle-round protection, a hard armor plate system is required separately.
The visor alone weighs 3 lbs (1.342 kg). The exact combined weight varies by shell size and style. The visor is approximately 22 mm thick, which contributes to its ballistic capability. The interior padding system is designed to distribute weight for extended wear.
The MICH (Modular Integrated Communications Helmet) cut extends further over the ears, providing more ear and temporal coverage. The FAST (Future Assault Shell Technology) cut reduces ear coverage in favor of maximum side-rail and front-mount accessory compatibility. Both styles carry identical IIIA+ ballistic protection ratings and ship with the same hardware package.
Yes. The visor mounts via pre-attached brackets to the ARC rail system and can be installed, adjusted, or removed without tools. The three-position adjustment allows the visor to sit straight ahead, halfway raised, or fully overhead. Replacement visors can be ordered separately.
