  • Kido-san hikes into the countryside of Kagoshima to dig the clay used to create this handcrafted bowl. To honor its connection to the land, he stamps the back of each piece with the latitude and longitude of where the clay was harvested. The firing method gives the off-white glaze a subtle bluish hue and a natural pattern of speckles across the surface.

We love the shape of these bowls—modern yet traditional—perfect for enjoying rice or sipping miso soup.

    • Small: approximately 4.7" D × 2.35" H (120 × 60 mm)
    • Medium: approximately 6.9" D × 2.8" H (175 × 70 mm)
    • Hand wash with mild soap and water
    • Made in Kagoshima, Japan

    From One Kiln

Oxidation Firing (OF) uses ample oxygen for complete combustion, while Reduction Firing (RF) limits oxygen, creating distinct variations in glaze and clay color. In oxidation, transparent glazes with iron take on a reddish tone, while in reduction they shift green. White glazes also differ—reduction draws out more iron, producing a deeper character. The firing method even influences shape: reduction often yields a slightly more open rim and flatter profile. These subtle chemical changes are part of pottery’s unique beauty—no two pieces are ever quite the same.
