A nice HL Leonard bamboo fly rod, 9', 3-piece, 2-tip, built for what feels to me like a #5. Medium slow action, and it might fish a #6 as well. Original seat and grip but the rod has been re-wrapped and re-varnished and the guides and tip-tops have been replaced. The re-wrap looks like 326 red and the rod has the Catskill style signature wraps and full intermediates. The stripping guide looks to be a replacement and there are black iron stains from the original snake guides (several guide wraps are slightly damaged due to holes in the bag). Three up node pattern and blonde wheatstraw cane. The butt female ferrule still has a legible patent date stamp. The ferrules all appear to have been off the rod, re-glued, and re-pinned, the female butt ferrule has been done twice next to each other. The ferrule fits are good, seat all the way, and the sections are straight. The grip is 5 1/4" in length, composed of 3/8" corks shaped to a tapered slim cigar. The grip has considerable cork erosion. The seat is all nickel silver with a soldered pocket cap and lovely hand-turned ring.  The roller die stamp is the early "HL Leonard Rod, Leonard Mills Co, Makers" in a cartouche. Packed in a canvas bag and non-original tube.
