This gaiwan and teacup set comes in a pale blue-grey glaze with cork brown details. As a result of Minna Graham’s gas firing process, both pieces feature significant reduction speckling throughout their glazes, a feature that brings to mind resin and spotted gum tree bark.
The gaiwan has a strongly flared body that rests atop a short heptagonal foot. Rough, hand carved faceting adorn the outer gaiwan walls along the base. This gaiwan features the same blue-ish grey glaze inside and out, with small sections of the underlying cork toned clay peeking through.
The accompanying teacup has a similarly strongly flared body that rests atop a triangular base. Three hand carved triangular facets adorn the outer cup wall along the base. This teacup’s uniform shape has been purposefully distorted by pinching the walls together, leaving it with a more narrow and ovular profile. The soft indents left behind from pinching provide a natural resting place for the thumb and middle finger, making the cup easy and comfortable to grip.
Set A’s cup has a capacity of 60ml or 80ml if filled to the brim.
Set B’s cup has a capacity of 80ml or 110ml when filled to the brim.
