A beautiful Sam Carlson fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, built for a #5 line. Late 1950's model. Medium action. Weighs 4 ounces. "Carlson" is lettered in black ink. The wraps are all original and the varnish is stunning. Examination of the inner part of the guides reveals the rod was lawn cast with one tip only. The wraps are dark red with detached bands of lighter red and black. Agate stripper and high arch paddlefoot bronze snake guides. Chrome tip tops. There is a faint trace of rubbing compound around the guide feet. The ferrule oxidation is 100% original. The grip is 6" long with the fore grip and the check squared and shows some signs of having been cleaned. The grip is cut to a Western style with a hidden pocket cap for the uplocking screwlock. The screwlock is an early style just after Sam was in Essex, CT. The ferrule fits are perfect and the rod is straight. The rod bag is light brown and the polished aluminum tube with brass fittings is a replacement supplied by Carlson protege Dana Gray. The brass top has a white felt insert.
