A powerful and evocative jewel from the late Victorian era, this exceptional antique signet ring is steeped in history and craftsmanship. Set at its heart is a richly hued cushion cut carnelian. Expertly hand carved with an intaglio depicting a bull’s head rising from a crown; the heraldic crest for the Radcliffe family.

A image representation of noble strength and leadership qualities that were often embodied in heraldic crests and family seals during the 18th and 19th centuries. Such imagery would have been carefully chosen for a mark of lineage

The carnelian itself was favoured in Victorian intaglios for its deep, warm tones and  polished surface, which allowed for exquisite detail in carving. Its use here, paired with a buttery 18 carat gold mount, speaks to the craftsmanship of the era.

Condition: the ring is in lovely antique condition and ready to wear with a light patina to the stone and gold in line with the age of the ring. There is possibly a historical sizing at the back as well as one nibble to the bloodstone as well as light wear.
